The holidays are here and Thanksgiving marks the start of the season and here are 12 reasons Thanksgiving is the best, or at least according to us. It's that time of year where families get together, leaves change colors, the weather gets colder and we begin to spend more time indoors participating in all of those fun holiday traditions!

Reason #1: Being with family. While there are a number of activities that make for a great Thanksgiving, being around family is key. Family participation in the following activities are what make for fun times and great memories!

Reason #2: NO SCHOOL! Let's be honest, kids look forward to Thanksgiving break for weeks, just for the fact that there's no school! In all seriousness it's a great time to make plans and for the whole family to enjoy some quality time together.

Reason #3: Going skiing, sledding or tubing. Frequently the first family day for snow play is on the Thanksgiving weekend. Fresh snow has fallen and the California Ski resorts have opened up.

Reason #4: Thanksgiving pies. My family always makes pies together, it's one of our favorite traditions. Our favorite is apple, we get out the apple peelers, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, apples, dough and the necessary utensils to make a day out of it!

Reason #5: Olive fingers! My Grandma and Mom would let all of the kids put olives on their fingers to eat the pickles and berries with their hands. I still do this as an adult on Thanksgiving because it reminds me of being a kid again.

Reason #6: Thanksgiving football! Whether you're more active or prefer to observe sports there is football for everyone, professional football on Thanksgiving day and of course the traditional friends and family game in the morning!

Reason #7: Games, need I say more! A chance for inter family entertainment, Checkers, Monopoly, Uno, and maybe even Chess versus Grandpa and maybe you can beat him this time!

Reason #8: Jumping into piles of leaves! Don't we all love making a little bit of a mess after we've been inside for a day or two?

Reason #9: Leftovers made into sandwiches and soups ... because we all need more food after Thanksgiving day itself, right?

Reason #10: Picking out the holiday tree on Sunday.

Reason #11: Traveling in the rain and or the snow!

Reason #12: Thanksgiving crafts. The classic Pine-cone turkey or the hand outlined turkey, decorated with pipe cleaners and brightly colored paper.

Bonus Fun Thanksgiving Facts:
Did you know that George Washington called for the first Thanksgiving day in 1789 for the 4th Thursday in November? Wow that's old!

Also, Ben Franklin wanted the Turkey as the national bird. Could you image!

Happy Thanksgiving!
